With the Cougars working hard to develop their playing style this season they started strongly against second placed Yeovil & Sherborne, Bex Darke opening play on the right wing before rolling back into the halfs to maintain strong rotations.
Solid defensive structure from Gemma Harvey and Rachel Roberts engaged the Yeovil breaks outside the KS 25, which was backed up by strong unit play through the halfs as they worked together to shut down the visiting teams outletting options.
As Yeovil broke early with a ball through the middle KS 'keeper Claire Jones made the save of the season so far, stepping out and angling in her D to force a change of direction on the attacker before driving out to narrow the gap and sliding in to make a stunning chest pad save from the shot.
The match swung from end to end as the Cougars exchanged breaks and goals with the Somerset side, Yeovil scoring 3 times through short corners but struggling to break the Cougars down in open play due to the outstanding workrate from insides and forwards to defend with 11 behind the ball, Fern Tucker and Nat Elliott putting in great spells through the wings.
As KS turned over the ball and attached as a pack Captain Chloe Harvey rolled back on from a rest break to power up field from the halfway line and receive from Sarah Budgen. Driving through the defence with 56 minutes gone Harvey continued the run to close on goal and calmly slot home from a narrow angle.
Y&S took the lead again through a driven short corner routine before their keeper was yellow carded with 8 minutes on the clock. With a one man advantage KS slammed home a full press and Kerly grabbed her second of the game, rounding the defence at pace and slipping home on the run with a great stick & ball finish to bring the score to 4-3.
With the clock running down KS continued to push for another goal but were held at bay with the opposition keeper returning with 3 minutes remaining.
The Cougars performance showed massive progress with pace and structure delivered all over the pitch, holding the majority of attacking possession during the match they were unlucky not to pull at least a point from a hard fought game.
Woman of the Match votes were shared across the team in a tight contest that saw Tess Baker pull ahead as a clear winner with a superb performance across the attacking channels.
