This week Kingsbridge and Salcombe 2s played against Plymouth Uni 3s. We played at home this week. We started the game strong with Poppy Booth, Carina Rodgers and Lisa Ansell as forwards. They worked so hard and worked well together. Poppy was constantly running until she got hit in the calf with a hard hit and had to go off. Carina Rodgers then moved to the midfield where she was excellent and stopping balls in the middle and chasing people down, channelling them wide. Lisa Ansell was magic in the D. She scored two fantastic goals, she would have scored 3 if it wasn’t for the pesky backing in rule. JL then subbed on as a forward and stayed high, which stretched out the whole pitch. In the mid field we had Freya Pearce, Laura Hamilton, and Sam Webb. Freya was great at distributing the ball wide and pushed herself to get to everything in the middle. She worked hard to get back to help defend and get forward to attack. Laura Hamilton played both in the midfield and as a forward. She was such an important part of getting and keeping the ball in Plymouth Unis end. Sam Webb never stopped running, she had some amazing shots on goal, assisted Lisa in her goals, and was amazing getting back to defend. Nothing got past her in the middle. Julie Lee played in her spot. She really pushed herself this week, after a terrible ordeal with a hacker she used her frustration in the game. She never gave up, if they got the ball off of her she would chase them down until she got it back. In Defence, Nicky Sheppard held the line as centre defence. She didn’t let anyone get past her, she is such a calm force, which gives everyone else around her confidence. Izzy Snape, as always, is a brick wall. Once she commits to the tackle she never misses. She made so many great stops at halfway so the ball didn’t go near our goal. Naomi Redmonds played phenomenally as a forward and a defence. She was excellent at marking in the first half as a defender, she wouldn't let her player get past her, she was great at channelling. As a forward she had excellent positioning, she stayed high to stretch the defenders and the pitch, she also was right on the post and almost got a goal! Mel Charnock was excellent at man marking this week. She marked their best player completely out of the game. Whenever she tried to do anything, Mel was right on her heels. Sophie Lake was amazing in goal, she stopped so many amazing shots on goal. She worked really hard to get from one side of the goal to the other. She even batted a ball out of the air!! We tied the game 2-2. Player of the Match was Lisa Ansell. Thank You to Tim and Mark for Umpiring and Thank You to Creeks End pub for providing our teas.
