KSHC 2s v Plymouth University 2s

Sarah Budgen

Back with a bang! KSHC secure a hard-fought 1–0 win over Plymouth.

It was great to welcome players back to the team this week, with a special mention to Ellie, returning after illness, and Fi, making her return to the pitch after having a baby. It was fantastic to have you both back!
Kingsbridge & Salcombe started strongly, playing some slick, fluid hockey and making excellent use of the wings. The team built great momentum early on and were soon putting Plymouth under pressure.

We were awarded several short corners in the opening stages and, although we were unfortunate not to convert them, the pressure and attacking intent were clear.

The defence of Darcey, Charlotte, Izzy and Ellie were solid throughout, holding their line well and making some excellent clearances to keep Plymouth at bay.

In midfield, Julie, Freya, Lisa, Fi and Bella distributed the ball effectively, moving it forward to the attacking players and intercepting Plymouth's passes at every opportunity. Their work rate and link-up play helped keep Kingsbridge on the front foot.

Up front, Nicky, Emma, Poppy and Alice found themselves in great positions and created plenty of opportunities, with some excellent chances on goal. They were unfortunate not to convert more of the opportunities created, but their movement and pressure kept Plymouth's defence busy.

Alice scored a fabulous rebound goal from a strike by Emma fabulous reactions giving Kingsbridge the lead!

Overall, it was a great performance and a very encouraging second match of the season, with plenty of positives to build on as the season progresses. The final score was 1-0 to KSHC!

A big thank you to Stuart for umpiring, and to Plymouth University for providing an umpire as well.

Finally, thank you as always to Creeks End for the fabulous match teas — very much appreciated!
