Kingsbridge and Salcombe 2nd team hosted Ashmoor at home for their first match of 2026, facing a well-drilled and highly organised opposition.
The home side started the match strongly, with the opening 20 minutes showcasing some excellent hockey. Good passing, teamwork, and movement allowed Kingsbridge to settle into the game early and compete well against a fast and disciplined Ashmoor side. Despite the positive start, Ashmoor’s strength on the ball began to show, and they took a 1–0 lead into half time.
Defensively, Kingsbridge worked hard to contain the visitors in the first half. Goalkeeper JL delivered an outstanding performance, making a number of crucial saves to keep the scoreline close. Charlotte and Sophie were solid at the back, producing strong tackles and important blocks. In midfield, Poppy covered a huge amount of ground and played a key role linking play, while Emma held the ball up well up front, helping to ease pressure on the defence.
The second half proved more challenging for Kingsbridge, as organisation dropped and Ashmoor capitalised on their pace and structure. The visitors applied sustained pressure and extended their lead, eventually running out 6–0 winners.
Despite the final scoreline, there were plenty of positives to take from the performance, particularly from the disciplined first-half display against a strong Ashmoor team. Charlotte and JL were deservedly named joint Players of the Match for their standout contributions.
