Kingsbridge and Salcombe Ladies 1st Team Return with Convincing Win Over Teign 2s
Kingsbridge and Salcombe Hockey Ladies 1st Team kicked off 2026 in style with a 4–0 home victory against Teign 2s on Saturday 10th January, despite a delayed start caused by icy roads and a frozen pitch.
The opening stages saw KS dominate possession, creating multiple chances through slick passing and attacking drives. Their persistence paid off midway through the first half when a string of penalty corners led to the breakthrough: a well-placed pass from the top of the D found Amy, who confidently slotted the ball past the Teign goalkeeper. Moments later, Amy struck again, finishing a cross that beat the entire Teign defence and doubled the lead.
KS continued to build opportunities with fluid link play and sharp movement, and just before half-time, Maddie capitalised on a crossed ball into the D, skilfully controlling and finishing to make it 3–0. A positive team-led reflection at the break ensured focus going into the second half remained high.
At the change of ends, KS showcased control and composure, with the defensive line—Debbie, Tess and Nat—working tirelessly to build momentum and create attacking options. Sophie stood firm in goal, preserving the clean sheet. In the final ten minutes, Boots produced a surging run into the D and unleashed an accurate strike, sealing a 4–0 win.
Coach Neil praised the team’s performance, noting, “We controlled 80% of possession and saw training drills on strong tackles come to life in match play.”
There are man of the match Amy, Laura, Charley and Rachel but Sarah took the win after her aerial interceptions and solid passing. Thank you to Lidstone Butchers for sponsoring the pasties for match teas.
Next up for KS 1s is an exciting inter-club showdown against KS 2s on Saturday 17th January.
