Kingsbridge and Salcombe Hockey Ladies 1st Team continued their winning streak with a determined 2–0 victory away to Ocean City 2s on Saturday 4th October at Stoke Damerel Community College.
The match began with Kingsbridge and Salcombe applying early pressure, creating numerous chances on goal. However, Ocean City’s goalkeeper delivered an outstanding performance, making a string of impressive saves to keep the visitors at bay. Despite an early injury to Amy, which forced a reshuffle in the defensive line, the team adapted with resilience and composure.
The breakthrough came just before half-time. After sustained pressure, a deflected shot off the keeper fell kindly to Maddie, who reacted quickest to slot the ball home and give Kingsbridge and Salcombe a deserved lead.
With the sun no longer a factor in the second half, the team showcased their ability to move the ball with precision and purpose. Crisp passing around the back created space out wide, allowing for more attacking opportunities. A goal from Julia was unfortunately disallowed for being lifted too high, but the team remained composed.
Their persistence paid off late in the second half when Laura K stole the ball back and fed to the front 3 who’s interplay beat all the defenders. This time, Julia made no mistake, firing the ball cleanly past the keeper to seal the 2–0 win.
Player of the Match was shared between Charley, for her ice-cool composure on the ball, and Julia, whose dynamic attacking runs proved decisive.
