KSHC 1s v Caradon 2s - Saturday 18th January 2025

Kingsbridge & Salcombe Cougars took on Caradon in an action-packed game, showcasing their determination, skill, and teamwork. KS 1s started strong, holding their press effectively and forcing Caradon into mistakes. This early pressure paid off just six minutes in when Kerly delivered a precise cross that Julia deftly slipped past the goalkeeper at the far post to give Kingsbridge the lead.

The momentum continued in the KS 1s favour as they secured their first short corner of the game. Lou stepped up and delivered a fantastic strike, doubling the lead for Kingsbridge. The Cougars maintained the majority of possession, dominating play. However, against the run of play, Caradon broke through and scored to make it 2-1. The game became increasingly end-to-end, with both teams pressing hard. Caradon earned a series of short corners following an injury break, eventually converting one to equalise at 2-2.

The second half began evenly, with both sides battling for control. KS regained the lead when Islay made a dynamic break and unleashed a shot on goal. Maddie was quick to capitalise on the rebound, lifting the ball into the net to make it 3-2.

Caradon responded fiercely, finding the net again to level the score at 3-3. However, KS were undeterred. They stepped up their intensity, strengthening their press and hunting in pairs to disrupt Caradon’s attacks and force them out wide. The last goal came from Gen who passed from the halfway line, a pinpoint pass bobbled over the Caradon defence, finding Julia, who performed a stunning reverse tomahawk dive to score, restoring KS 1s lead at 4-3.

In the dying minutes, KS remained dominant, setting up a disciplined press on a Caradon hit-out before the opposition could even position themselves properly. This tactical execution was the culmination of months of training and preparation, demonstrating the team’s growth and cohesion. The final score was 4-3 to the Kingsbridge.

The entire team played with incredible effort, but the standout performance earned player of the Match votes for Ellie for her unbelievable saves and Kerly who dominated in the middle, both of whose contributions on and off the ball were pivotal to securing the victory.
